Forney ISD will be hosting the 3nd annual North Texas Drumline Contest on September 24th, 2022 at City Bank Stadium. We look forward to providing another percussion opportunity to the students and staff of the DFW area. Groups will have a chance to be evaluated by judges and receive a mini clinic to help the progress of their contest show.
Performance slots of 20 minutes will allow the judges to provide feedback to the performers after their performance. Each school will also receive written comments and an audio recording. Forney HS is located ten minutes east of Mesquite and twenty five minutes east from downtown Dallas. We hope to see you this fall for the beginning of another great contest serving the DFW percussion community. The contest will be divided into size classifications. Awards for best snare line, best tenor line, best bass line, and best front ensemble in each category. The top 3 scoring groups in each category will receive trophies. Each ensemble is $300. Bill Bachman
Bill is a world-renowned specialist in hand technique with a heavy background in rudimental drumming and its application to the drumset. Bachman is a regular contributing columnist for Modern Drummer magazine and is the author of the books Stick Technique, an Essential Guide for the Modern Drummer and Rhythm & Chops Builders published through Modern Drummer Publishing (nominated for “Best Product” in their 2018 Readers Poll, as well as the Logic marching percussion instructional book series for Row-Loff Productions. Bachman is the founder of DrumWorkout.com, designer of Vic Firth’s Heavy Hitter pad series and his signature Billy Club drumsticks and the inventor of the patented Remote Speedy Hat.
Bachman is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music and has studied percussion performance at the University of North Texas. He is a member of the Percussive Arts Society’s Health and Wellness committee and Modern Drummer magazine’s education team where he was recently nominated in the 2016 reader’s poll under the “clinician/educator” category.
Bill has played with and instructed many award-winning marching percussion groups, including the UNT drum line and various DCI World Class finalists (Cadets, Bluecoats, Blue Knights, and Carolina Crown). On drumset, Bill is the drummer for Herd of Instinct, Spoke of Shadows, has toured with progressive rock artist Neal Morse, and freelances playing and recording in the Dallas area. Bachman is an international drum clinician, and he endorses Vic Firth sticks, Remo drumheads, Zildjian cymbals, and Row-Loff Productions products.

Carlos Botello
Carlos Botello began his DCI marching career with Lone Star Drum and Bugle Corps in 1995-1997 marching snare all three years. In 1999 he was an age out of Pioneer Drum Corps and In 2000, he also played snare in the Blue Knights WGI World Class Percussion Ensemble. Botello has been teaching drum corps since 2005 and has taught many groups including (Pioneer, Revolution, Blue Devils B, Colts and Mandarins).
Botello has marched and studied with percussion instructors Mickey Hartzog, John Wooton, Allan Murray, Brian Stevens, Doug Rosener, and Curtis Pierre. Botello holds a B.A. in Music Education from New Mexico Highlands University and teaches Percussion at Bowie High School in Arlington. He has instructed and arranged for many groups all over the United States. Botello is the owner and creator of the Left Hand Path Drum Book series which has 13 books under the brand. Botello is a Beetle Percussion Artist and is sponsored by Salyers Percussion.
